PART OF THE SHORE: The Saving of HMS Wave by Paul Moran BSC
tells the exciting story of the dramatic rescue of the crew and the saving of HMS Wave which ran aground in St Ives harbour in February 1952. In one of the wildest storms ever seen in St Ives HMS Wave broke her anchor chain and was driven onto the Man an Mor rocks. Part of the Shore tells the story of the grounding, the successful salvaging of the ship and the aftermath.
Eye witness accounts are included from interviews with Wave veterans and dramatic photographs throughout the book illustrate the account. St Ives was a very different town in 1952 and Paul Moran also paints a vivid picture of those time.
The book is dedicated the townsfolk of 1952 who helped rescue 62 sailors and save the ship. It was Highly Commended in Class 7 (Science & Technology) in the 2011 Hoyler An Gof Awards.
